| The Olympic Games of 2008 have prompted a great interest in the sport of team handball. In Pennsylvania, Team Handball
is in a growth spurt. "We are going into schools and educating teachers and students about this fantastic sport. The United States is the only country in the world where handball is not so popular. 39 million people play worldwide and we know that Pennsylvania has great athletes ready to shine. Our goal is to find these young athletes and allow them to play and enjoy it!" says Dominique Dumont, Eastern Regional Director for USA Team Handball.
Pennsylvania currently has two clubs. The first is based in Philadelphia and is headed by Christian Wilson, the club's President and organizer. The Philadelphia Revolution currently is comprised of two teams, one men and one women. With practices twice a week, the team is seeing a large amount of interest and possibly soon will extend the club with a youth team. "We at USA Team Handball are thrilled with the rapid growth of the Philadelphia club. We completely support their efforts and we were very pleased to see their men participate in their first official tournament at the Flanders Swim and Sport club this summer" says Dumont.
One other club exists at Pittsburgh University where young athlete Alex Hinsey too it upon himself to launch a Sport Club. "Alex came to tryout at West Point Military Academy with us last January and he was determined to get a team going at his school! Given a few points of guidance, the sport club is all set to start practicing and participating in the North East league in October. Now, all we need is to get Penn State up and running again! " says Dumont.
Those wishing to learn the sport or join a team should contact us immediately. For those concerned about not having played before...fret not, there is no experience necessary! Just raw athleticism, a pair of sneakers, shorts and a t-shirt and you are set to get on the court! Trust us, you will love it! Everyone does.
